UK Australia 1797 Cartwheel Penny Geo III Soho
Affectionately known as 'Cartwheels' because of their large size and weight, the one ounce copper penny coin is significant in being the first coin to be produced using Matthew Boulton's steam powered coining press. The coin was given a value of two pence by Governor King throughout the infant colony of New South Wales, in his proclamation of 1800. Excellent condition with a trace of lustre. Hard to find in such good condition. $625 Shop 5
